About the Role

As TPI Director you will own the full lifecycle of our transdermal drug-delivery subsystem—designing a miniaturized, closed-loop platform that can safely, precisely, and discreetly modulate neurochemistry during XR experiences. You’ll translate product-level goals (sub-second dose actuation, ±5 µL accuracy, ISO 10993 biocompatibility) into a concrete execution plan, build and work as a cross-functional team member (biomedical, microfluidics, firmware, quality, regulatory), and deliver integrated builds ready for pilot human-factors studies in Tokyo, Miami, Portland, and Shenzhen.

You will own the end-to-end technical roadmap for the entire design of the Multi Modal Dawn’s Topological Pharmacological Injection Capabilities, and Integration. This Role is Full Stack for both Hardware AND Software meaning you will be creating the entire TPI UX from the ground up, hands on, in our Gen 0 headset. You’ll be translating product level goals into reality such as:

- Building system architecture and conducting R&D.
- Build Modular delivery systems for both TPI integration and cartridge delivery system.
- Build System for highly customizable integration of above systems and additional user creation.
- Conduct QA and Regulatory analysis ensuring device is within all proper regulation in core markets.
- Manage all Vendor and Partner component integration into the full device.
- Managing all Safety componetns and programming related to these products.

What Success Looks Like After 12 Months

1. Prototype v1 shipped – Wearable TPI module delivering < ±5 µL dose error and < 500 ms actuation latency, integrated with Gen 0 headset.
2. Pilot trials live – Multi-site human-factors studies with real-time telemetry and safety monitoring dashboard.
3. Regulatory pathway defined – Draft pre-submission package and clear go-forward plan for PMDA/FDA engagement to maintain status as a health device.

Compensation and benefits

$75,000 + substantial early equity.

Relocation package, visa sponsorship, and bilingual legal/accounting support if necessary.

Health, dental, and commuter benefits (Japan national standards).

How to Apply
Send a resume or LinkedIn Link plus a short blurb (< 300 words) about the most interdisciplinary technical challenge you’ve ever solved to jobs@ Blackflowreality.com with subject line “Director-AR-[Your Name]”. Portfolio links, GitHub repos, or published papers welcome.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity of thought, background, and experience. If you’re excited by our mission but don’t meet every bullet, please apply anyway—your unique perspective could be the missing piece.

Requirements

Minimum requirements.

·  8 + years in drug-delivery devices, biomedical wearables, or microfluidic systems; 3 + years leading cross-disciplinary engineering teams.

·  Demonstrated delivery of at least one transdermal, infusion, or implantable medical or wellness device from concept to clinical/market pilot.

·  Deep knowledge of microfluidics, MEMS actuation, biocompatible materials, and skin pharmacokinetics.

·  Fluency in embedded C/C++ and one higher-level language (Rust, Python, or Kotlin); comfortable reviewing PCB schematics and firmware safety nets.

·  Hands-on experience with design controls, risk management (ISO 14971), and verification/validation testing under GLP/GMP environments.

·  Excellent technical communication in English; basic Japanese (or willingness to learn) for vendor liaison and regulatory consultations.

Preferred & Bonus Skills

·       Prior authorship of PMDA/FDA submissions (510(k), de novo, or ND) or CE Mark technical files.

·       Experience integrating biosensors (EEG, ECG, electrodermal) into closed-loop drug-delivery algorithms.

·       Familiarity with cloud-based pharmacovigilance, real-time analytics, and data-privacy standards (GDPR, HIPAA).

·       Published research or patents in microneedle arrays, smart-patches, or bio-responsive polymers.

Master’s or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

About the Company

We’re a deep-tech startup building the world’s first multimodal XR platform that fuses AR optics, AI, brain–computer interface (BCI), transdermal pharmacological injection (TPI), and lucid-dream induction (LDI). Our mission is to move everyday computing from flat screens into an embodied, spatial experience that promotes exploration, wellness, and meaningful social connection. Backed by pre-seed stage investors, we’re assembling an engineering team to deliver a closed-loop beta prototype within the next 12 months.
